Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi who is also commonly known as Sadequain Naqqash, was a historical Pakistani artist and poet, celebrated for his superb abilities as both a calligrapher and muralist.
He is regarded as one of the most distinguished artists and calligraphers to have emerged from Pakistan, having created approximately 15,000 works of art. He holds the distinction of being the only Pakistani artist to have been honored with all four major civilian awards including:
Sadequain was born on 30 June 1930 in Amroha, into a family with a strong tradition of calligraphy. His family migrated to Pakistan during the 1947 partition and settled in the Nazimabad area of Karachi. In the late 1940s, he became involved with the Progressive Writers’ and Artists Movement. His talent was first recognized by Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, who helped Sadequain’s profile. He also spent some time in Paris, further refining his artistic skills.
Sadequain’s journey began at an early age, nurtured by his family’s calligraphy background. Over the years, he became known for blending traditional techniques with his innovative style.
